weeping, badminton
Aug. 6th, 2012 10:42 amI watched the Badminton men's singles final last night. It was SO CLOSE and oh god, Lee Chong Wei was crying on the podium. THE FIRST THING HE DID WAS TWEET 'I'm sorry'.
NO, UNACCEPTABLE. HE DESCRIBED HIMSELF AS PLAYING AT ABOUT 50-60% IN PREVIOUS MATCHES, HE'S BEEN PLAYING ON PAINKILLERS, FFS, AND HE HADN'T PICKED UP HIS RACQUET UNTIL TWO WEEKS BEFORE HIS FIRST MATCH BECAUSE OF THAT THOMAS CUP INJURY. His energy was visibly flagging in that second game, ughhhh, and he still managed to play such a close rubber set.
You got us a silver medal AND two points from gold. SHUT UP, YOU ARE GREAT AND I LOVE YOU AND SO DOES EVERYONE ELSE. Like, I'm not going to say that the gold medal doesn't matter, because it does and anyone who says otherwise is lying, but Lee Chong Wei is more important to me than a gold medal and a lot of Malaysians feel the same (those who don't are crying because they don't have free Baskin Robbins and holiday today and SHUT YOUR FACES).
Our only Olympic medallist to win more than one medal. 42 gold medals, 23 silver (two of which are Olympic medals), 200 consecutive weeks as top seed in the world, a fucking amazing final match of his career. We love you and we are proud of you and that is how we made #ThankYouLeeChongWei trend worldwide last night (i.e. on the strength of love and the inability to shut up about it).
